Sky's The Limit... TheBigShow "The Big Show" 30x40 inches, oil on RayMar panel I have had so much fun painting the sky!! I understand what it means now, "sky's the limit", because the sky truly is captivating, incredibly detailed and diverse, yet so beautifully magical to paint because I can take so much artistic license. I've always been fascinated with the sky. One of my favorite pastimes as a child was to lay on the sidewalk outside our home in the Mojave Desert and watch the clouds pass by. When it was very hot, which was most of the time, I would close my eyes and wait for each cloud to give me just a few seconds of reprieve and I would lay there and sigh with each moment of coolness. For reasons I can't explain, I actually have believed that painting the sky would be much more difficult than painting a person. Over the years as I have developed my skills, I have continued to add the sky and the landscape into my paintings of people. I am thrilled to report I was wrong, the heavens, all alone, in all it's glory, I have found is incredibly easy and joyful and comforting to paint. I'm so thankful to also have three new figurative paintings on the schedule AND two incredible commissioned portraits with exceptionally beautiful people, one of which I have already started (and it is a stunner, if I don't say so myself). It seems to me that the more I push myself to grow as an artist, the richer and more wonderful my whole life experience becomes. Speaking of The Big Show... "Sorbet Sunday" 9x12 Oil on RayMar Panel "Sorbet Sunday" 9x12 Oil on RayMar Panel I'm making all this new work for a very big show! I'm so excited to be invited to paint for 72 days straight at the Celebration of The Arts in Scottsdale Arizona! Me and my 99 new best friends will be making art for 10 weeks, 7 days a week, 10am to 6pm. I have longed for a way to make painting daily a bigger part of my life experience. The longest stretch of painting daily I have been able to accomplish is 28 days. This amazing art experience is going to both challenge me and help me grow. "Pink Parade" 9x12 Oil on RayMar Panel "Pink Parade" 9x12 Oil on RayMar Panel My goal is to bring over 40 works of art with me to the show ranging from 6x6 inches to 40x60 inches. Not to mention the work I will make painting at the show. I am a little nervous though... I haven't been away from my family for more than 3 months maybe ever and I hope I have the stamina to create the same quality of work that I always do in my new studio, for such a long stretch and without the comforts of home and the support I am used to. I'm working hard to build a whole new mobil studio and that part has been really fun! But the excitement of meeting so many new artist friends and sharing time painting with my very good friends Jerry Salinas and Robin Damore is going to truly be a blast! The show opens on January 18, 2025 and closes on March 30th. If you happen to be in the Southwest this winter, it would be wonderful to see you there.
