In 2015 my painting "City Blues" Took me on a great adventure to Spain. Earning an ARC Salon Purchase Award, "City Blues" exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona. It was a magical experience to receive that award in person and even more incredible to visit Madrid and Barcelona. It was there that I first experience Flamenco dancing!
You know, I was so starry-eyed and excited about the art exhibit, I didn't even think about the wealth of culture and inspiration I would find in Spain until it was too late. I booked little to no time there and made no connections with any of the amazing dancers and street artists I saw. When I returned to Lee's Summit, Missouri I was very sad and disappointed in myself. I felt I'd left a 100 amazing paintings behind me in Spain. It wasn't until winter of this year when I was traveling through New Mexico that I learned of the most authentic team of Flamenco dancers, right here in the states!
